Red + Leopard Print Nails

February 25, 2018

For  Valentine’s Day I received  a few OPI nail polish colors. One of them was “Adam said, “It’s New Year’s, Eve”. This color is a bright, apple red, and it took 3 coats to become fully opaque (if you have shorter nails, two coats would most likely work). With it, I created a basic leopard print design, but you can use any color of your choice. You can find the color here: “Adam said, “It’s New Year’s, Eve” by OPI

Needed:

  • Red nail polish
  • Black striping polish
  • Bobby pin (to create leopard design)
  • Dark brown polish
  • Tan polish
  • Tape (for a straight line)

Prep:

  1. Paint your nails with a protective base coat to prevent staining (especially if using red polish)
  2. Use tan nail polish on your middle and ring finger (make sure it’s fully opaque)
  3. Use red polish on thumb, index finger, and pinky

Design:

  1. Place a strip of tape diagonally across your middle finger
  2. Paint the top half of your middle nail with the same red you used on your other nails
  3. Immediately remove the tape
  4. Use a bobby pin dipped in dark brown polish to create non-symmetrical spots on the tan half of your nail
  5. Outline the spots with “S” and “C” shaped brackets with your black striper (I added a few black lines and dots between the spots for a more realistic look)
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to create leopard print on your ring finger
  7. Use a matte top coat on your red nails and the red half of your middle nail
  8. Seal in the leopard print nails with a glossy top coat
